Petersham Family Medical Centre is a mixed billing practice – a private fee will apply for all consultations.

BULK BILLING POLICY

Our practice bulk bills following patients, provided they have a valid Medicare card when seeing a doctor at the Centre:

• DVA Gold Card holders
• Children under 16 years of age
• Health assessments (subject to eligibility) for patients: 40-49 year old health check (one only), Seniors check for patients 75+(Annually), Patients on 5 or more medications for Domiciliary Medication Management Review.
• Care plans (subject to eligibility)
• All follow up consultations for results or review
• At the doctor’s discretion, any patient who is experiencing significant financial difficulty.

Cards are required to be shown on each visit.

Certain medical procedures may incur a private fee. Your doctor will explain any additional costs to you and obtain your consent before undertaking any procedure or treatment.

PRIVATE BILLING POLICY

Petersham Family Medical Centre is a mixed billing practice.

From the 9th of August 2022, all patients- excluding those eligible for bulk billing as listed above- will be billed a private fee with a claimable rebate from Medicare (subject to eligibility) for all services offered at the practice.

Private consultation fees vary with the nature and length of consultation- for valid Medicare card holders the expected out of pocket cost for a standard consultation (Face-to-Face/Telehealth) for example is $25 (Full fee $64.75 minus Medicare Rebate $39.75). For all Telehealth Consultations payment is required PRIOR to the consultation.

For your convenience, we can transmit your request for Medicare rebate electronically on the spot at the time of payment, eliminating the need to lodge your claim at a Medicare office and have your rebate paid into your nominated account by Medicare within a few days. Please ensure you have updated your bank details with Medicare and your address details are correct.

Overseas Patients

If you are not from one of the countries covered by an RHCA (Reciprocal Health Care Agreements), you will need to pay for the full cost of your care. If you have private health insurance, the insurance company may cover some of this cost.

Medico-legal reports

A Medicare rebate is not available for preparation of most medico-legal reports such as medical reports for legal purposes, RTA Driving Medical Exam, Pre – Employment Medical Exam, Dive Medicals, Aeronautical Medicals, Worker’s compensation/ Insurance medical. These services are privately billed and will attract GST.

Newborn Babies

Newborn babies that have not yet been registered with Medicare number will need to pay the full private consultation amount – But don’t worry, you can claim back from Medicare upon registration.

Treatment Room/Procedural Fees

There is a nominal charge for medical consumable items (i.e. dressings) and for the nurse assisting in some procedures such as minor surgical procedures such as sutures, mole removal and abscess drainage. These prices can range from $16 – $50. Your doctor will explain any additional costs to you and obtain your consent before undertaking any procedure or treatment.

Before undergoing any medical procedure you must have an initial consultation to discuss the procedure with the doctor.

Transfer of Medical Records

This medical centre will provide, on receipt of a formal request from your new doctor, a copy or summary of your medical file. There is a fee of $87.95 incl GST for this service.

Cancellation/Non Attendance & Refund Fees:

If you are unable to attend or wish to reschedule your appointment please inform us as soon as possible on (02) 9560 8207 to avoid late cancellation/non-attendance fees.

If you wish to cancel any GP appointments, we require at least three hours’ notice, and at least 24 hours’ notice for appointments with Psychologists, Podiatrists, Dietitians and Physiotherapists. This enables us to reschedule the day for other patients.

Failure to give the required notice will result in the following cancellations fees –

• GPs – $39.75
• Podiatrists, Dietitians and Physiotherapists – $52.95
• Psychologists – $84.80
• Clinical Psychologists – $124.50

Further appointments will not be booked until payment has been made.

Please note that in the case of refunds, you will be charged an administration and processing fee of $2.50

Payment options

We appreciate payment at time of consultation, as we do not issue accounts. We accept cash, major credit cards and EFTPOS. We do not accept cheques.
